Trillium Secures Multi-Million Dollar Pump Contract in East Asia

Project Overview
Trillium Flow Technologies recently secured a substantial contract in the Asian international natural gas sector, demonstrating our continued leadership in providing specialized pumping solutions for demanding offshore applications. This achievement highlights our expertise in designing and delivering reliable equipment for complex floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) environments.

Customer Challenge
The contract involves supplying pumps for a Nearshore FLNG vessel operating in Southeast Asia. This innovative floating liquefaction facility is designed for deployment in a benign, shallow-water environment, moored to a jetty near an industrial development area. The project marks the client’s third FLNG project but first nearshore development, aiming to significantly increase liquefied natural gas production from offshore facilities to 4.7 million tons per annum.

Project Overview
The project encompasses multiple critical components:

  • An onshore substation
  • A new jetty head and trestle at a fertilizer facility
  • A two-kilometer subsea pipeline
  • 24-inch and 6-inch diameter onshore pipelines
  • A gas metering station
  • The FLNG vessel itself

The Trillium Solution
Trillium Flow Technologies secured an order for approximately 20 API 610 centrifugal pump packages, showcasing our ability to deliver comprehensive solutions for complex marine applications. Our scope includes both horizontal and vertical Gabbioneta Pumps skids, each meticulously tailored to meet specific customer requirements.

Our engineering team applied specialized design considerations to account for the unique challenges of vessel-mounted pump systems:

1. Structural Enhancements

  • Advanced three-point gimbal mounting systems for the horizontal pump baseplates to ensure constant pump-motor alignment despite unsteady decks.
    • For the vertical pumps:
      • Custom soleplates with multi-point connections to decouple supports from deck deformation
      • Increased stiffness in baseplates and supporting structures
      • Design modifications to withstand higher static loads with ship movements

2. Vibration Control

  • Performance of advanced numerical simulations on the complete pump skids to guarantee the equipment’s reliability, including keeping vibration levels under control and avoiding natural frequencies’ excitation.

Why Trillium Was Selected
Our selection for this prestigious project was based on several key differentiators:

  • Technical Expertise: Outstanding support throughout the FEED (Front End Engineering Design) phase
  • Industry Experience: Proven expertise in offshore applications
  • Track Record: Previous successful supply for another FLNG facility for the same end user
  • Strong Relationships: Excellent commercial relationships with the project’s EPC contractor

Industry Significance
This project highlights the growing importance of LNG production and processing in the global energy transition. Floating plants like this are transforming the LNG business landscape, enabling liquefaction, production, and offloading processes to occur hundreds of kilometers from shores and closer to offshore gas fields.

Trillium Flow Technologies continues to be at the forefront of this evolution, providing the specialized pumping solutions needed to make these innovative facilities operate reliably and efficiently.
