Capabilities in Nuclear Power Generation

-Involved in Government and Commercial Nuclear Power for over 50 yrs
-Manufactured key safety related valves installed at Shippingport
-Supplied valves for the first US Naval Nuclear Reactors
-Supplied valves to most PWR and BWR sites in the U.S.
-Key Valve supplier in European and Asian Nuclear Reactors
-UK, France, China, Korea, Japan

-Industry renowned brands, each with a reputation for quality
-An extensive global installed base of nuclear valve products
-Growing an impressive base on the Gen III+ reactor design
-Actively working with SMR and Gen IV manufacturers for future valve requirements

-The Main Steam Isolation Valve is a quick closing design for high‐pressure steam service.
-The Main Steam Isolation Valve is normally held open by air pressure applied to the air‐actuating cylinder, spring closing on failure of air supply.
-An oil dashpot with adjustable metering valves controls the closing speed for BWR applications.
-It is a wye pattern type valve complete with actuator and accessory equipment. The valve is actuated with an air cylinder operator (air‐to‐open, air and/or spring to close).

HISTORY & DESIGN

-MSIV's are designed to close quickly and seal tightly on the main steam line
coming off the reactor vessel (BWR) and main steam line of the steam generator on (PWR).

-The designs are different between a Boiler Water Reactor (BWR) and a Pressure Water Reactor (PWR)

-The valve is designed to fail closed within 3 to 5 seconds when tripped.

Difference Between BWR & PWR

BWR

  • 45 degree body seat with a 45.5‐46 degree poppet seat
  • Smaller upper structure with more springs
  • Nose guided poppet
  • Liners‐ Only at Nine Mile Unit 1, Oyster Creek & Tarapur‐ India
  • Seat rings‐ Only at Nine Mile Unit 1, Oyster Creek & Tarapur‐ India
  • Air spring closure
  • LLRT Requirement‐ General 11 scfh original requirement/ per valve
  • Some inboard /outside valves may be rolled up to 30 degrees
  • Dashpot speed controlled

PWR

  • Flat poppet and body seat
  • Larger upper structure with less springs
  • Skirt Seals
  • Articulated Pilot Poppet
  • Spring alone closure
  • No LLRT requirement, valve is in secondary system
  • Metered air speed controlled

Design Modification Features

  1. Design guided poppet (BWR only)
  2. Stabilized poppet design (BWR & PWR)
  3. Welded floating pilot poppet (BWR & PWR)
  4. Anti-rotation main and pilot poppet’s (BWR & PWR)
  5. Second bushing in the cover (BWR)
  6. Live loaded packing with out/leak-off (BWR & PWR)
  7. One piece forged anti-rotation stem (BWR & PWR)

Current Modification for Plant Hatch Unit II

-Original installation of (8) Rockwell Edwards 24" MSIV's, Drawing # PD‐ 421544 Rev. R on Unit II
-Trillium Flow Technologies installed /A&M internals into Unit II
-Experience from Unit I A&M valves led to major factor in modifying to
A&M design in Unit II
-We have modified six valves total to date with the remaining two scheduled for Spring 2017
-Modification includes Poppet stabilization, Nose Guided Poppet and One Piece Stem' LLRT results from six modified MSIV's:
-Valve Year Modified As left LLRT Result (SCFH) Year of Next LLRT As Found Result (SCFH)

A&M Retrofit Modification Process for Plant Hatch Unit II

-Trillium Flow Technologies Engineering Perform Equivalency / Reconciliation of Rockwell Edwards 24” MSIV’s Design
-Evaluate Existing MSIV Internal Mapping Data
-Reverse Engineer Rockwell Edwards Spare Parts
-Perform Plant Walk Downs for MSIV Locations
-Evaluate Existing Upper Structure for Reuse (Actuator / Spring Plates / Springs / Yoke Rods)
-Poppet / Main Disc & Bonnet / Cover are manufactured oversize to machine fit in field.
